Cornwall has one of the highest concentrations of holiday parks and seasonal pitches in the country, and a great many caravans here have never left the county — bought locally, pitched locally, used for weekends at Perranporth or the Roseland. Salt air and long standing periods are the two things that shape condition most, so damp readings and window seals matter more here than mileage ever will.

Owners spread right across the county tend to keep vehicles closer to the coast than to the A30, which means a run of tight parish lanes before you reach anything wide enough for a transporter. Gateposts, cattle grids and blind bends near villages like St Mawgan or Zennor are a genuine feature of Cornish collections, not an exception, and hedgerows narrow further once summer growth sets in.

Winter lay-up runs long here because the touring season is short and intense, packed into a few weeks either side of school holidays. That means damp can sit unnoticed in a locker or roof locker seal for months, and awnings left folded away wet are a common cause of mould that only shows up at a spring inspection.

A fair number of vehicles are kept on farms near Wadebridge, Liskeard or the china clay belt inland, where storage is cheap but access depends entirely on how wet the field has been. Coastal touring routes towards Land's End or the Lizard put real mileage on tow cars even when the caravan itself covers very little ground.
