Should I get more than one valuation before selling?
Yes, if you have the time — it is a sensible thing to do and we would not suggest otherwise. Just make sure you are comparing like with like: whether each figure is an estimate or a firm offer, what condition it assumes, what comes off it and how you would be paid.
Questions that make figures comparable
- Is this an estimate or an offer you will honour after inspection?
- What condition and history has been assumed?
- Does it include collection or transport?
- Are there fees, commission or admin charges?
- When would the money reach my account?
- How is outstanding finance handled?
Watch for figures that move later
A high number that drops sharply once someone inspects the vehicle is not a better offer than a realistic one that holds. Ask what would change the figure before you commit your time.
