Ways to sell a caravan or motorhome

There is no single best way to sell. A private sale can reach the strongest figure and asks the most of you: advertising, messages, viewings at your home, test tows or drives, and payment risk to manage. A part exchange is convenient but only makes sense if you are buying. Brokerage and auction each move the effort and the uncertainty around rather than removing them.

Selling to a buying service trades some of the top-end figure for certainty and speed: one assessment, one figure, collection arranged, no viewings at your address. Whether that trade is worth it depends on what the vehicle is, how much time you have, and how comfortable you are with strangers and payments.

This cluster sets out what each route actually asks of you so the choice is yours rather than ours.

Should I sell my caravan or motorhome at auction?

The short answer

Auction is fast and final, which suits some owners. The trade-off is unpredictability: the result depends on who is in the room that day, entry and commission fees apply, and you normally have to get the vehicle to the saleroom yourself.

Points to weigh up

  • Entry fees and commission, whether or not it sells
  • Reserve levels and what happens if it does not meet them
  • Transport to the saleroom, especially for a non-runner
  • No control over the final figure
