Across the conurbation, compound sites cluster along the M60, M61 and M62 corridors where land is cheaper than in the boroughs themselves, and owners in Wigan or Bury will often drive twenty minutes just to reach their own caravan. Weekend towing tends to head west towards North Wales or north to the Lakes, both reachable without touching the busiest sections of the M6. Vans that spend the working week parked up in a compound rather than on a drive generally show less kerb damage but more tyre flat-spotting from standing still.

Seasonal patterns here follow the school calendar closely, with a spike in bookings each Easter and again in late July, and a corresponding rush of servicing work in the weeks either side. Owners who tow through the Pennines regularly notice brake wear coming on faster than flatland driving would suggest, given the gradients out towards Saddleworth and the Rochdale moors. Motorhomes fare a little better for storage, since some boroughs allow them on-street where a touring caravan would draw a parking notice.

Ex-hire and ex-dealer stock still circulates widely through the region because of the sheer number of dealerships along the A6 and A56, so provenance varies more than in quieter rural counties. Damp readings on older units are common simply because of how many hands a typical caravan passes through here before an owner finally decides to stop touring.
