Can I sell a caravan with broken appliances?

The short answer

Yes. A fridge that no longer cools, a heater that will not light, a faulty water pump or a broken oven do not stop a sale. Appliance faults are factored into the assessment, so list what does not work rather than replacing anything before you have a valuation.

Faults owners most often report

  • Fridge not cooling on gas, mains or 12V
  • Space or water heating that will not light or hold temperature
  • Water pump, taps, shower or toilet flush not working
  • Oven, hob or grill faults
  • Sticking blinds, flyscreens, catches or a failed 12V panel

Why we would rather you told us than fixed it

Appliance parts and labour on caravan-specific equipment add up quickly, and a replacement fridge or heater almost never returns its cost in the sale. Describing the fault accurately is worth more to you than repairing it.

Please do flag anything that could be a safety concern, such as a gas smell or scorching, so it can be handled correctly at inspection and collection.

What helps at inspection

  • A note of which appliances work, which are intermittent and which are dead
  • Any service or habitation report that mentions the fault
  • Manuals, keys and remote handsets if you still have them

Should you spend money fixing this before selling?

Replacing a failed fridge or heater before selling

Possible benefit
Removes one fault, but the caravan's overall condition still sets the value.
Possible cost
High — caravan-specific appliances and fitting are expensive.

Repair may not be economic

Money spent on a repair is not automatically recovered in what the vehicle is worth.

Small fixes such as a fuse, a pump or a gas regulator

Possible benefit
Lets systems be demonstrated as working at inspection.
Possible cost
Low.

A low-cost fix may help

Money spent on a repair is not automatically recovered in what the vehicle is worth.
